Hungary’s election winner Péter Magyar has urged the Serbian people to take inspiration from recent political developments in Hungary, saying change is possible when citizens unite.
Responding to questions from Serbian media, Magyar emphasized that he does not want to interfere in Serbia’s internal affairs, but added: “What I can say to the Serbian people is that they should draw strength from yesterday’s elections in Hungary.”
He stressed that both Hungarian and Serbian citizens expect their leaders to ensure security, development, and peace, promising that a government led by his Tisza Party would deliver “order, peace, security and development.”
Magyar also addressed regional relations, saying it is important for ties between Hungary and Serbia to remain stable, particularly for ethnic Hungarians living in Vojvodina. At the same time, he hinted at complex political links between Aleksandar Vučić, Viktor Orbán, and Robert Fico.
He further announced that a future government would investigate an alleged attempt to attack a gas pipeline near Kanjiža, describing it as a possible “false flag” operation during the election campaign.
Magyar also criticized media conditions in Serbia, noting that independent outlets face significant challenges, similar to what he described as past conditions in Hungary.
Despite political differences, he said he remains open to dialogue with Serbian leadership and reaffirmed support for maintaining strong bilateral relations, independent of individual leaders.
