The constitutive session of Kosovo’s Assembly will not be held on Friday as previously expected and has instead been postponed until Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
The decision follows a day of political consultations and discussions between representatives of the country’s political parties over the next steps toward establishing the new legislature.
Lawmakers are now expected to reconvene on Saturday to continue the procedures required for the constitution of the Assembly.
The postponement comes amid an ongoing political deadlock over the formation of Kosovo’s institutions, including disagreements surrounding the election of the Assembly speaker and the process for choosing a new president.
Political representatives held consultations throughout Friday as they sought to find a way forward and enable the new legislature to begin functioning.
The Saturday session is expected to be closely watched, as Kosovo remains under pressure to overcome the institutional impasse and establish a functioning parliament and government.
