U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday that he is directly involved in negotiations with Iran, signaling that an agreement between Washington and Tehran could potentially be reached in the near future.
“I am involved in negotiations with Iran. Things are going well. A deal could be reached soon,” Trump said.
The U.S. president cautioned against suggesting that an agreement had already been finalized, but said the negotiations remained open and were progressing.
“I don’t want to say it has already been reached, but the situation is somewhat open at the moment,” Trump said.
Trump also claimed that the United States “controls the Strait of Hormuz,” one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes and a critical passage for global oil shipments.
His comments come amid continued diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between Washington and Tehran and reach a broader agreement.
Meanwhile, Israel has rejected a U.S.-Iranian draft proposal aimed at reaching a peace agreement between the two countries, adding another complication to the diplomatic process.
