U.S. Vice President JD Vance and other envoys expressed optimism on Tuesday regarding the fragile ceasefire in Gaza, describing the progress as better than expected, while visiting a new center in Israel for civil and military cooperation.
Vance noted recent flare-ups of violence but said the ceasefire is proceeding “better than I expected” after two years of conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Envoy Steve Witkoff added that “we are surpassing the level we thought we would be at this point.”
Senior U.S. officials remain in Israel amid ongoing questions about the long-term peace plan, including whether Hamas will disarm and who will govern Gaza.
