Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić today dismissed accusations of excessive police force during the recent road blockades as a “theater of the absurd and hypocrisy.” He also suggested that human rights experts making such assessments are participating in a “colored revolution,” his term for the ongoing student and citizen protests.
“The police are exhausted, but they will achieve and fulfill all their tasks. What an imbecile and cretin you must be to watch how to destroy your own police, which protects the peace and security of the country,” Vučić stated before the ceremonial opening of the Preljina-Požega section of the “Miloš Veliki” highway. He added that the police are “suffering blows from sticks.”
Vučić claimed that the ratings of those participating in these actions are falling daily, as citizens can no longer tolerate it.
Vučić also addressed the announcement by Srđan Milivojević, leader of the Democratic Party, that he would submit a list of police officers who violated the Law on Police, the Serbian Constitution, and other laws to the European Union (EU). Milivojević plans to propose that all police officers who violated and exceeded their official powers be banned from entering EU countries.
“What a scoundrel you must be to do that. This reminds me of 1943 when certain people in Belgrade wanted to denounce their neighbors who worked for the resistance movement, so they reported them,” Vučić said. In his view, Milivojević is essentially asking for the best police officers to be denounced simply for doing their job.
