The Special Prosecution of Kosovo has filed an indictment against an individual of Albanian nationality, suspected of committing war crimes against the civilian population during the 1998-1999 Kosovo war.
The accused, identified as M.I., is suspected of carrying out murders, sexual violence, arrests, and mistreatment of Albanian civilians in Osek Hylë, Gjakova, in collaboration with Serbian police forces.
Due to the suspect’s fugitive status, the prosecution has proposed holding the trial in absentia, in accordance with Kosovo’s Criminal Procedure Code.
“The investigations have confirmed that the defendant, during the period of 1998-1999, in cooperation with members of Serbian police forces, committed murders, sexual violence, arrests, and mistreatment of civilians uninvolved in the war. The Special Prosecution remains committed to bringing all perpetrators of war crimes in Kosovo to justice,” the statement reads.
