The Government of Kosovo has approved the Draft Law on amending and supplementing the Law on the deployment of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) abroad. Prime Minister Albin Kurti said this draft law regulates the deployment of the KSF in international operations, and it was welcomed by the Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci.

Three years ago, permission was granted for missions abroad.

In this manner, the Kosovo Security Force, with 92 votes, received the green light from the legislature to send contingents outside Kosovo.

Now, three years later, the Government of Kosovo has approved the Draft Law on amending and supplementing the Law on the deployment of the KSF abroad.

“This draft law regulates the procedures for deploying the KSF abroad, as well as participation in peacekeeping operations, international operations, and other activities,” said Kurti.

These changes have been welcomed by the Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci.

“The development process of the KSF, which is ready to participate in international operations and the increased interest necessitates changes according to the defense law.

The amendments made to this law concern several changes related to Article 10 of this draft law,” said Maqedonci.

But what are the changes made to the draft law for the KSF?

“Legally, the KSF has not had the right to go abroad except in partnership with one of the friendly armies, and in this way, it has operated under the mandate it has had so far. However, with this change in the law, the possibilities increase and expand. It creates a good opportunity for the KSF to prove its reliability and gain new experiences,” said former soldier Hysen Gecaj.

Gecaj states that with these changes, financial support for KSF soldiers participating in missions abroad should also be anticipated, as well as health insurance.
