President Vladimir Putin should stop commenting on the upcoming U.S. presidential elections, said John Kirby, the White House National Security spokesperson, on Thursday.
“Putin needs to stop talking about our elections. He should not be endorsing anyone in any way,” Kirby said, according to Reuters.
Earlier that morning, Putin stated that Russia would support Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the upcoming U.S. presidential elections in November.
Speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Putin noted that Kamala Harris has an “infectious smile,” mentioning this as the reason for Russia’s support for her, rather than her Republican opponent, Donald Trump.
