A sharp increase in electricity consumption has raised alarms among responsible institutions. Kosovo’s Energy Regulatory Office (ZRrE) has called on citizens to save electricity, as peak-hour consumption has reached around 1,500 megawatts per hour, far exceeding the country’s domestic production capacity of 900 megawatts.

The Chair of the ZRrE Board, Ymer Fejzullahu, stated that “this difference must be imported,” adding that the system is also facing transmission and distribution constraints.

“We call on all consumers, especially during the months of December and January, to save electricity,” he said, emphasizing that energy savings “will be reflected in future tariffs.” According to Fejzullahu, Kosovo’s electricity consumption has approached the peak levels of Albania.

At the same meeting, ZRrE approved reductions in heating tariffs for Termokos and the Public Enterprise ‘Gjakova’, by 4% and 5% respectively for metered consumers. The heating tariff in Pristina will be 73 cents per kilowatt, while in Gjakova it will be 72 cents per kilowatt per month.
