Today marks 28 years since the heroic deaths of Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) commander Fehmi Lladrovci and his wife, Xhevë Krasniqi-Lladrovci, one of the KLA’s early fighters.
Fehmi and Xhevë Lladrovci were among the most prominent figures in the organization and armed struggle for Kosovo’s freedom. They fell on September 22, 1998, during a difficult and unequal battle with Serbian forces, following a heroic resistance by Fehmi, Xhevë and other KLA fighters at the fortified positions in the Çiçavica mountains.
Student Fatime Hetemi and many other KLA fighters also fell alongside them.
Fehmi Lladrovci served as commander of the KLA’s 114th Brigade, which was later named after him. Statues of Fehmi and Xhevë Lladrovci have been erected in the main square of Drenas.
As a sign of honor, gratitude and lasting remembrance, commemorative ceremonies will be held today beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Martyrs’ Cemetery Complex in Gllanasellë, where tributes will be paid to the national heroes and martyrs who fell for the freedom of Kosovo.
