Last year marked the first in which Russian military losses in Ukraine exceeded its recruitment levels, according to Ukraine’s Chief Commander, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, in an interview with Le Monde, reported by Ukrinform.
“Despite mobilizing and recruiting 406,000 personnel in 2025, Russia’s total killed and wounded reached approximately 418,000 soldiers,” Syrskyi said, meaning Russian losses outpaced recruitment.
He noted that these figures should be viewed in the context of Russia’s total attacking forces reaching 713,000 troops during the same year.
The General added that Ukrainian forces are currently inflicting between 1,000 and 1,100 Russian casualties—killed or wounded—every day in ongoing combat operations.
