Italy’s Defense Minister, Guido Crosetto, said he will return to Italy after being stranded in Dubai when flights were suspended amid rising tensions following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran.
Crosetto had left Rome on Friday evening on a civilian flight to join his family, who were already in Dubai for a vacation. He had originally planned to travel back to Italy on Saturday afternoon, but flight disruptions caused by the regional security situation left him unable to depart as scheduled.
In a post on X, the minister explained that he will return alone on a military aircraft to avoid exposing others to potential risks during the current circumstances. He added that, for safety reasons, his family will remain in Dubai for the time being while he heads back to Italy.
The travel disruption comes as air traffic in parts of the Middle East has been affected by escalating military developments, prompting authorities and airlines to suspend or reroute several flights in the region.
