Israel has initiated a ground offensive in Lebanon, marking a significant escalation in the Middle East conflict.
Israel Katz, Israel’s Defense Minister, stated that troops have been authorized “to advance and take control of certain positions” in southern Lebanon, where the Iranian-backed group Hezbollah operates.
A spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that the troops were deployed “as part of a reinforced defensive posture.”
“The IDF is working to create an additional layer of security for residents in northern Israel,” the spokesperson added.
The move follows intensified Israeli airstrikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon on Sunday, after the joint Israel–U.S. operation against Iran on Saturday.
The Israeli military confirmed that there are currently no plans for a ground offensive in Iran.
