Google is preparing to change how people work with artificial intelligence by integrating its Gemini model into the Google Workspace productivity suite.
The new features will extend to services such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, and Google Drive, which are used by around 3 billion people worldwide and by more than 11 million business customers.
According to the company, the goal is to simplify everyday office work by automating time-consuming tasks such as searching for information, summarizing documents, preparing presentations, or filling in spreadsheets.
Yulie Kwon Kim, Google’s Vice President of Product for Workspace, explained that most people spend the majority of their time searching for information or summarizing documents instead of focusing on communication and creative work.
“Today, people spend around 90% of their time trying to save time, for example by gathering information or summarizing documents just to start a conversation with a client. By automating these processes, we can have more time to collaborate and develop ideas,” she said.
What Will Change in Google Workspace
In Google Docs, users will be able to automatically create a first draft of a document using the “Help me create” feature, drawing information from emails, documents, chat conversations, or even the internet. The AI can harmonize the writing style, adjust formatting based on other documents, and ensure consistent writing across the entire document.
In Google Slides, Gemini will help create presentations from scratch using a simple text prompt, as well as refine existing slides to maintain a unified design style.
Meanwhile, Google Drive will make it easier to find lost documents. Users will be able to search for files using natural language, while the “Ask Gemini” feature and automatic result summaries will make searching faster.
Significant updates will also arrive in Google Sheets, where AI can help fill in spreadsheet data, automatically create charts, and solve problems that normally require complex formulas or advanced data analysis skills.
When It Will Be Available
The new Gemini features for Google Workspace are already available globally for users with AI Pro and AI Ultra subscriptions, as well as for companies participating in the Gemini Alpha program.
For now, users must have U.S. English set as the primary language in their profiles.
Some features related to Google Drive will initially be available only in the United States.
