Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has claimed that the regional security situation has become “more complex,” attributing this to what he described as an “alliance” between Pristina, Tirana, and Zagreb, following a meeting with officials from the Serbian Ministry of Defence, military officers, and leaders of Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including Milorad Dodik.

He announced a wide-ranging package of measures aimed at modernising and “robotising” the Serbian armed forces, including the creation of units equipped with robotic platforms and long-range strike drone divisions. He also shared photos from the meeting held at the “Banjica” barracks.

“As Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, today I proposed the drafting and adoption of a robotics strategy, the formation of a battalion-level unit equipped with robotic platforms, the initiation of organisational preparations for the formation of long-range attack drone divisions and loitering munition units, the training of special reconnaissance units for determining target coordinates for directing artillery and air fire, as well as further equipping and training for the use of drones in other units,” Vučić wrote in a Facebook post.

He added that officers should take part “with great enthusiasm and even greater dedication” in the digitalisation and robotisation of the army, as well as in the use of “the most powerful and modern missiles.”

The central theme of his remarks was what he described as a worsening security environment in the region. Vučić said the situation is more complex than at the beginning of the year, directly linking it to what he called “the military activities of the Pristina–Tirana–Zagreb alliance.”

“The security situation is somewhat more complex than in January when we addressed it, primarily due to the actions and further activities of the military alliance of Pristina, Tirana, and Zagreb. Our commitment to preserving peace and stability has not changed, and this can only be maintained if we are strong enough,” he wrote.

Vučić also announced upcoming contracts for the procurement of weapons and military equipment, describing them as “very important.”

“We expect important visits and new contracts with other countries in order to place large orders for our army. I believe that in the coming period we will raise everything we discussed today to a higher level. We will continue to develop further in all aspects. I believe we will be one of the armies with the highest interoperability and the greatest capabilities not only in our region but beyond,” he said.

He further stated that he and Dodik, along with Republika Srpska leadership, are assessing “potential security risks” and reviewing Serbia’s military capabilities and planned acquisitions in order to strengthen them further.
