Vučić Discusses EU Reforms and Serbia’s European Path with von der Leyen

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, held a phone conversation with Ursula von der Leyen, focusing on key aspects of Serbia’s relationship with the European Union and its progress toward EU membership.

According to Vučić, the discussion addressed Serbia’s reform agenda and its continued advancement on the European integration path. He emphasized the country’s commitment to accelerating essential reforms, particularly in the areas of rule of law, judicial system improvements, and strengthening institutional independence.

Vučić also highlighted ongoing efforts to implement media laws and a broader package of legislative reforms, in line with recommendations from the Venice Commission.

In a public statement following the call, Vučić described the conversation as “open and constructive,” expressing gratitude to von der Leyen for her engagement and support. He added that Serbia remains committed to aligning with European standards and expects continued backing from the European Commission to advance its reform efforts and accelerate the EU accession process.

The two leaders also exchanged views on current regional and global challenges, with Vučić underlining the importance of stability, cooperation, and responsible policymaking for the future of the Western Balkans and Europe.
