The Acting President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, hosted today the national mathematics team following their participation in the European Mathematical Olympiad 2026 (EMO 2026).

The team was led by Prof. Assoc. Dr. Valdete Rexhebeqaj-Hamiti, head of the Association of Mathematicians of Kosovo. Kosovo was represented by students Ajan Hajrullahu, Lyron Celina, Vesa Xhymshiti, Ari Juniku, Shpendi Deva, and Lekë Nikçi.

At the competition, Ajan Hajrullahu won a bronze medal, while Lyron Celina and Vesa Xhymshiti received honorable mentions.

Haxhiu congratulated the students for their achievements and for representing Kosovo in a major international mathematics competition.

“Participation in competitions of this level is a success in itself. When combined with the results achieved—the bronze medal and the honorable mentions—this success becomes even more meaningful. It reflects the dedication, discipline, and potential of our youth in mathematics,” she said.

On this occasion, she awarded recognitions to all six students and to the Association of Mathematicians of Kosovo.

During the meeting, discussions also focused on the challenges faced by the association in preparing students for international competitions. Haxhiu expressed readiness for the Presidency to support these efforts, either directly or by facilitating cooperation with relevant institutions.

It was also highlighted that Kosovo will host the European Mathematical Olympiad in 2027, with Pristina expected to welcome talented young participants from across Europe.

Haxhiu emphasized that supporting talented students is an investment in knowledge, science, and the future of Kosovo.
