The Acting Head of the European Union Office in Kosovo, Eva Palatova, has called for the swift formation of institutions following the 7 June elections, stressing the need for political compromise among parties for the election of the country’s president.

As part of the Europe Day activities, Palatova said the European Union expects Kosovo to establish a stable government with a strong parliamentary majority in order to continue implementing reforms within the European agenda.

“We need to see a rapid formation of institutions, with a government that has a strong majority in parliament, capable of generating healthy cross-party compromises to elect the president and continue with reforms,” she stated.

According to her, such institutional stability is important not only for the internal functioning of the country but also for advancing integration processes towards the European Union.

Palatova also highlighted Kosovo’s multiethnic character, describing it as an important value for EU member states.

“Thirdly, Kosovo’s multiethnic character is of great value to all our member states. All our capitals are observing its preservation and constructive engagement with all communities, so that all Kosovars, regardless of ethnic background, feel they have a home and perspective here,” she said.

Her remarks come at a time when Kosovo’s political scene is entering the final phase of the election campaign for the 7 June elections, while the formation of a parliamentary majority and the election of the president are considered key political challenges after the electoral process.
