The Basic Court of Prishtina has ordered one month of pre-trial detention for five suspects accused of committing the criminal offense of war crimes against the civilian population.
According to the court’s statement, the detention measure was imposed on the defendants identified by the initials N.P., S.J., B.P., S.M., and S.S., following a request submitted by the Special Prosecution of Kosovo.
The suspects are under investigation on reasonable suspicion that, acting in co-perpetration, they committed the criminal offense of war crimes against civilians.
“The Court assessed that pre-trial detention is an appropriate measure in this criminal case because there is a real risk that, if released, the defendants may flee in order to evade criminal responsibility. Furthermore, considering that all defendants are citizens of Serbia, there is a genuine risk that they could easily escape and become unreachable to the justice authorities, thereby preventing their presence from being secured and obstructing the normal course of criminal proceedings,” the court stated.
The case, known as “Recak II”, remains under investigation by Kosovo’s judicial authorities.
