A 43-year-old security guard has been rescued alive from the rubble of a collapsed shopping center in La Guaira, Venezuela, eight days after a series of powerful earthquakes devastated the region.
According to search-and-rescue teams, the man had been trapped in the building’s basement since the collapse. Despite enduring extremely harsh conditions with little access to food and water, he managed to survive until rescuers successfully located and freed him.
Authorities described the rescue as a miracle, saying he may be one of the last survivors found following the disaster. The complex rescue operation involved international teams working for days to safely reach him through unstable debris.
Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis remains severe. More than 2,200 people have been confirmed dead, while around 50,000 people are still reported missing as search-and-rescue operations continue under extremely difficult conditions. The dramatic rescue has renewed hope that more survivors may still be found beneath the rubble.
