Kosovo’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Glauk Konjufca has called for Kosovo to become a full member of the U.S.-Adriatic Charter (A5), saying the country is ready to take on greater responsibility for regional security.
“It is time for A5 to become A6,” Konjufca said during a meeting in New York held on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to a statement from Kosovo’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Konjufca called for a stronger A5, emphasizing that regional cooperation should be based on resilience, solidarity and accountability.
To underline the importance of accountability, Konjufca referred to the Banjska attack, noting that September 24 will mark three years since the attack in which Kosovo Police Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku was killed.
Konjufca said that those responsible for the attack remain at liberty in Serbia.
He also referred to the 2024 attack on the Iber-Lepenc canal. According to Konjufca, the incident demonstrated the need to protect critical infrastructure from sabotage, cyberattacks and hybrid threats.
Konjufca said Kosovo has experienced such threats firsthand and is ready to contribute to a stronger regional response.
He also thanked Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman for chairing the A5 meeting.
