Former Alliance leader Ramush Haradinaj has commemorated Kosovo Police Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku on the third anniversary of his death in Banjska.
In a Facebook post, Haradinaj said that Bunjaku fell in the line of duty while defending Kosovo, emphasizing that, in his view, the September 24, 2023 attack demonstrated that the intentions against Kosovo had not ended after 1999.
“Today marks three years since the name of Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku was added to Kosovo’s list of martyrs. On this third anniversary, we honor with the highest respect the man who fell in the line of duty, defending free and independent Kosovo from aggression and Serbian criminal groups,” Haradinaj wrote.
He also addressed the issue of those responsible for the Banjska attack, linking it to a broader criticism of how responsibility for crimes committed during the Kosovo war has been addressed.
“It is a painful irony of history that the aggressors who have attacked us for decades remain free and Kosovo continues to face attacks from them, while our liberators, those who defended this land during its most difficult days, are today being unjustly tried in The Hague,” he said.
Haradinaj also said that Kosovo’s history should not, in his view, be rewritten and that the suffering of war victims remains deeply present.
“Anyone who is trying to rewrite Kosovo’s history and equate the victim with the aggressor should know that our wounds are still completely fresh,” he wrote, referring to the families of missing persons, survivors of wartime sexual violence, and the martyrs.
Haradinaj paid tribute to Afrim Bunjaku and all those who gave their lives for Kosovo.
“Eternal glory to the Hero of Kosovo, Afrim Bunjaku! Eternal glory to all the martyrs of the Nation.”
