U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said a suspicious incident near the British RAF Fairford air base appears to be linked to a foreign actor, as British authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Speaking to Fox News, Rubio referred to Iran while discussing threats against U.S. interests around the world. However, he did not provide evidence or specific details linking Tehran or any other foreign government to the incident. Iran has denied any involvement.
The incident occurred over the weekend after police were alerted to three suspicious vehicles near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire. Dozens of nearby homes were evacuated during the early hours of Sunday as authorities responded to the situation. Five British nationals, all in their 20s, were arrested on suspicion of terrorism-related offences and were later released on bail while the investigation continues.
