The organization Albanians for America has welcomed the introduction of the SRBIJA Act in the U.S. Senate, an initiative led by Senators Chuck Grassley and Richard Blumenthal that had previously received support in the House of Representatives.

In a statement, the organization said that support for the initiative in both chambers of Congress demonstrates, in its view, growing attention in Washington to political developments in Serbia.

Albanians for America specifically highlighted concerns over democratic standards, pressure on the media, the functioning of institutions and elections in Serbia.

The organization also called for the U.S. approach toward Serbia to take into account Belgrade’s relationship with Kosovo and issues related to regional security.

The statement referred to the armed attack in Banjska, for which Kosovo authorities have accused Milan Radoičić and his group. Albanians for America said Serbia continues to refuse, in its view, to take responsibility and extradite Radoičić and members of his group to face justice in Kosovo.

The organization also mentioned the attack on Kosovo’s critical infrastructure at Ibër-Lepenc, describing it as a case that, according to the group, demonstrates how threats to Kosovo’s security can also emerge through attacks on critical infrastructure.

Albanians for America called for recognition of Kosovo’s independence and Serbia’s commitment to refraining from actions that undermine Kosovo’s security and stability to form part of the U.S. approach to peace and security in the Western Balkans.

The statement also expressed concern over Serbia’s relations with Russia and China. According to the organization, Belgrade’s political and strategic partnerships with the two countries warrant attention from the United States and its allies.

In conclusion, Albanians for America thanked Senators Grassley and Blumenthal, as well as members of the House of Representatives who have supported the initiative, for what the organization described as their commitment to democracy, free elections, media freedom, the rule of law and stability in the Western Balkans.
