U.S. President Donald Trump has softened his tone toward Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, saying that their relationship is “very good.”

Before departing for Alabama, Trump was asked by reporters about his relationship with Meloni and the criticism he had previously directed at her.

“I’ve always liked her,” Trump replied, denying that there were any serious problems between them.

The U.S. president also praised Europe’s decision to release significant quantities of oil from its reserves. He confirmed that he does not plan to impose a ban on oil exports, saying that such a measure “has never been under consideration.”

Relations between Trump and Meloni had become strained in recent months, particularly over the war in Iran and Italy’s role in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump had previously criticized Meloni’s position at the G7, while the Italian prime minister denied the allegations and sought to preserve relations between Rome and Washington.
