PDK leader Bedri Hamza has called on MPs from Vetëvendosje, the LDK and non-majority communities to provide the signatures needed to convene an extraordinary session of the Kosovo Assembly, where the Law on the Specialist Chambers would be put to a vote.

Hamza said there are no legal or procedural obstacles preventing the law from being approved in its second reading.

“We call on VV, LDK and the non-majority communities to provide us with their signatures for an extraordinary session. We are asking for the law to be approved. There is no reason for it not to be approved. There are no legal or procedural obstacles, and there will be no political obstacles either, unless there is a lack of political will among other parties to have the law approved in the second reading,” Hamza said.

He stressed that, in his view, the law goes beyond the interests of any individual political party and concerns Kosovo’s past, present and future.

“This is a law that goes beyond the PDK. It is not a law for the PDK; it is a law for the past, present and future of the country. It carries a weight and importance that goes beyond any political party,” he declared.

Hamza said that, before initiating the law, he had met with leaders of political parties and asked for their support, insisting that the PDK does not seek to obstruct justice but to seek justice.

“We do not want to obstruct justice; we are seeking justice. They are innocent,” Hamza said.

The PDK leader called on political parties and the president of the Assembly to convene and approve the Specialist Chambers Law.

He also addressed the protests held in Prishtina, calling on the government not to contribute to escalating tensions.

“I appeal to the political parties and the president of the Assembly to come to the Assembly and approve the Specialist Chambers Law. Citizens are also asking for this. No one would want to see the events that have taken place; they are unnecessary. I call on the government not to contribute to tensions among citizens. There should be no disproportionate violence against those who are protesting. Last night, we saw unacceptable scenes,” Hamza said.
