Italian General Roberto Vergori, the incoming commander of KFOR, has arrived in Prishtina ahead of officially assuming command of the NATO-led mission on October 14.
Vergori met today with the current KFOR commander, Major General Özkan Ulutaş. The two generals will work together over the coming days to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of the mission’s activities.
According to KFOR, the official handover ceremony will take place on October 14, 2026, at KFOR Headquarters.
KFOR reiterated its commitment to fulfilling its mandate under UN Security Council Resolution 1244, with the aim of maintaining a safe and secure environment for everyone living in Kosovo and ensuring freedom of movement.
The mission stated that it carries out its mandate impartially and in close coordination with the Kosovo Police and the EU Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), in line with their respective security responsibilities.
