Kosovo’s Ambassador for Relations with NATO, Astrit Zemaj, has condemned remarks by Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dačić, who stated on 7 October in Raška, Serbia, that “sooner or later, the Serbian flag will fly over Prizren.”
In his remarks, Dačić also reiterated claims that Kosovo would never be independent.
Zemaj described the statements as threatening nationalist rhetoric that, in his view, challenges Kosovo’s statehood and puts regional security at risk.
He argued that such rhetoric belongs to the era of Slobodan Milošević, when aggressive Serbian nationalism was associated with wars, destruction and humanitarian catastrophe across the Balkans.
“We will be here. The Republic of Kosovo will be here. Unlike Serbia, which acts as Russia’s proxy in the Balkans, our country has aligned itself with the United States of America, NATO, the European Union and our allies,” Zemaj wrote.
He emphasised that Kosovo would continue to act as a partner in safeguarding peace, freedom and stability both within the country and throughout this part of Europe.
