Bosnian-American political scientist Jasmin Mujanović has said that Serbia continues to pursue a hostile policy toward Kosovo and other former Yugoslav states, stressing that Belgrade cooperates closely with Russia, including in intelligence and security matters.

In an interview with Telegraf, Mujanović said Serbia’s policy toward Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro should be viewed in the context of Russian influence in the Western Balkans and cooperation between Serbian and Russian intelligence structures.

“We need to be clear that Serbia still pursues a deeply hostile and harmful policy toward almost all its neighbouring states, particularly those that were part of the former Yugoslavia. At the forefront are Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro,” Mujanović said.

According to him, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić adjusts his approach and the intensity of pressure on these countries depending on the political needs of the moment.

Mujanović stressed that Serbia cooperates closely with Russia on issues concerning Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, alleging that intelligence operatives from both countries are active on the ground across the Western Balkans.

“We know that Serbian and Russian intelligence services cooperate closely. We have known this since government documents were published following the fall of Nikola Gruevski in what was then the Republic of Macedonia, now North Macedonia,” he said.

The political scientist added that, in his assessment, Serbian and Russian operatives are active in Kosovo, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, arguing that compelling evidence exists of this cooperation.
