The Government of Kosovo has approved the establishment of a working group tasked with “drafting, coordinating and harmonising the state strategy concerning appeal proceedings before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.”

Prime Minister Albin Kurti said the government would work to secure the “correction at the appellate level” of the convictions against four former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders: Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi. On 16 September, the Specialist Court in The Hague found them guilty of war crimes and sentenced them to prison terms ranging from 13 to 25 years.

“As we have said before, this requires a state and national strategy, an organisational effort that goes beyond party differences and brings institutions together around a common goal,” Kurti said.

He announced that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Glauk Konjufca would lead the working group.

According to Kurti, the group will include “institutional and parliamentary representation.”
