The Government of Kosovo has approved amendments to its 2022 decision, adopted when Russia launched its aggression against Ukraine, to implement the European Union Council’s decision on international sanctions against Russia.
At today’s government meeting, Prime Minister Albin Kurti said the decision was being adopted to align Kosovo’s foreign and security policy with that of the European Union.
Foreign Minister Glauk Konjufca presented the item to the government and explained the content of the decision.
“This decision provides for temporary exemptions from restrictive measures to allow the completion of existing contracts and the procurement of critical industrial components during the transition to alternative sources of supply. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora proposes for consideration and approval the draft decision amending and supplementing the Government’s 2022 decision. The aim is to ensure the continued alignment of Kosovo’s foreign policy with the European Union’s Common Foreign and Security Policy,” Konjufca said.
He added that adopting the decision confirms “our commitment to promoting peace, democracy and human rights, while ensuring the continuity of close cooperation with the EU to uphold the full applicability of European and international laws and conventions in the Republic of Kosovo.”
Konjufca stressed that the decision is based on the constitutional and legal framework of the Republic of Kosovo.
