US Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Dick Durbin, who visited Kosovo in recent days, were also asked about developments concerning the Specialist Chambers, following Parliament’s recent approval of a law related to the court.
Both senators were cautious in their remarks, saying it was important to see how the process would proceed.
Senator Shaheen said she hoped the appeal against the convictions of former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders would “lead to an outcome that the people of Kosovo can understand.”
“Well, I cannot comment on the changes being considered by Parliament, but my understanding is that the Specialist Chambers are an institution established by Kosovo through its Parliament and supported by Kosovo. Therefore, I think it is important to see how this process unfolds. As I understand it, there may be an appeal against the ruling, and I hope that appeal will be considered peacefully and lead to an outcome that the people of Kosovo can understand,” Shaheen told RTK.
Senator Durbin agreed with Shaheen, adding that caution was necessary when commenting on matters currently before the courts.
“Well, I can tell you that I completely agree with Senator Shaheen. We need to be careful when commenting on matters that are under judicial consideration. I hope this matter will be resolved, as she said, in accordance with the jurisdiction established by law and peacefully, at every level,” he said.
