Italian MP Paola Chiesa has commented on the security situation in Kosovo following the transfer of command of the NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR) from Turkish Major General Özkan Ulutaş to Italian Major General Roberto Vergori at a ceremony held on Wednesday.

Chiesa described KFOR’s mission in Kosovo as highly sensitive, warning that stability remains fragile and that tensions in the north periodically resurface.

“Even today, the mission in Kosovo remains an extremely delicate one. The stability that has been achieved is fragile, tensions in the north flare up periodically, while political dialogue between Belgrade and Prishtina is making slow progress,” Chiesa wrote in a social media post, according to Gazeta Express.

She stressed that NATO’s presence and the contribution of the armed forces remain essential to maintaining peace and ensuring security for all communities in Kosovo.

Her remarks came as Vergori assumed command of KFOR, the international peacekeeping mission responsible for contributing to a safe and secure environment in Kosovo.
