Miloš Jovanović, leader of the New Democratic Party of Serbia (Nova DSS) and lead candidate for the Authentic Right – Dr. Miloš Jovanović list, has called for a radical change in Serbia’s political course, advocating cooperation with the European Union (EU) without pursuing membership.

In an interview published by the daily Politika on October 19, Jovanović argued that all other electoral lists, including those backed by the ruling parties and the student movement, were pro-European, presenting his coalition as the only alternative to EU accession.

“We offer an alternative to Serbian defeat and humiliation, a vision of the future, economic prosperity and strategic thinking. We offer the courage that our people have lost,” Jovanović said.

He described his platform as proposing a fundamental change in Serbia’s foreign policy and broader political stance, particularly regarding relations with the EU, Kosovo, Russia and social issues.

Jovanović said his coalition rejected what he described as pressure to abandon Serbia’s claims regarding Kosovo and Metohija, as well as the EU’s approach toward Russia. He also disputed the classification of the 1995 Srebrenica massacre as genocide and rejected the characterization of former Bosnian Serb military commander Ratko Mladić as a criminal.

The candidate further argued that EU membership could threaten Serbian agriculture by exposing domestic producers to competition within the bloc’s internal market. He also opposed the recognition of same-sex marriage, claiming that such changes would be among the expectations associated with Serbia’s path toward EU membership.

The Authentic Right electoral list is made up of Nova DSS and the Monarchists. Its platform advocates maintaining cooperation with the EU while rejecting full membership and several political and social conditions that Jovanović associates with the accession process.
