London doesn’t withdraw support for Ukraine under new leadership, Starmer pledges unwavering aid to Zelensky

London’s support for Kyiv during the conflict with Moscow will remain at the same level under the new leadership, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told Ukrainian President Zelensky.

Starmer replaced Rishi Sunak as head of the United Kingdom’s government on Friday after his Labour Party won decisively in the general elections, securing at least 412 out of 650 seats in parliament. One of his first calls in his new role was with Zelensky.

On Friday, Zelensky wrote that during their conversation, he congratulated Starmer on his election as prime minister and “wished him success in meeting the expectations of the British people for the new government.”

“I am grateful to Prime Minister Starmer for reaffirming the UK’s principled and unwavering support for Ukraine,” he said.

According to Zelensky, he and the British prime minister had “coordinated positions” ahead of the NATO Summit in Washington on July 9-11 and discussed ways to further strengthen the “partnership” between Kyiv and London.
