EU and UK Call for Ceasefire Between Israel and Hezbollah

The European Union is “extremely concerned” about the escalation of the conflict between Israel and the group Hezbollah, designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. This was stated by the EU’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell. He also called for an “immediate ceasefire.”

“The European Union is extremely worried about the escalation in Lebanon, following Friday’s attacks in Beirut,” Borrell said in a statement, urging for a “ceasefire” along the border that separates them, “as well as in Gaza.”

Meanwhile, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy also called for an “immediate ceasefire” after a “disturbing escalation” between Israel and Hezbollah, as tensions along the border have heightened fears of an all-out war.

“Our message to all parties is clear: we need an immediate ceasefire from both sides, so that a political solution can be reached, allowing Israeli and Lebanese civilians to return to their homes and live in peace and security,” Lammy said during a speech at the Labour Party’s annual conference.

Additionally, John Kirby, spokesperson for the National Security Council at the White House, stated that a regional military escalation is “not in Israel’s best interest.”
