Kurti Meets Vatican Secretary, Invites the Holy See to Open Its Mission in Kosovo

On the third day of his stay in New York, Prime Minister Albin Kurti held a meeting with the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

The Prime Minister’s Office announced that Prime Minister Kurti informed Secretary Parolin about the institutional support and protection that Kosovo provides for cultural and religious heritage sites.

“With the establishment of the Special Mission of the Republic of Kosovo at the Vatican, marking the advancement of bilateral relations, the Republic of Kosovo and the Holy See have shown a willingness to further deepen relations. Today’s meeting in New York was an excellent opportunity to continue discussions on issues and areas where existing cooperation can be further strengthened.

Prime Minister Kurti informed Secretary Parolin about the institutional support and protection Kosovo offers to cultural and religious heritage sites. He also spoke about the Republic of Kosovo’s commitment to respecting religious rights and freedoms, as well as the government’s social policies and employment measures. The Prime Minister emphasized that the Republic of Kosovo is a country for all its citizens and that, in this regard, the government works to ensure equal opportunities for all towards secure economic development,” the statement said.

Furthermore, Kurti thanked Secretary Parolin for the hospitality extended to him during his visit to the Holy See last year and invited him to open a mission in Kosovo, just as Kosovo has in the Vatican.

“Thanking him for the meeting and the hospitality extended to him at the Holy See in June of last year, Prime Minister Kurti invited Secretary Parolin to open the Holy See’s mission in the Republic of Kosovo, just as Kosovo has done at the Vatican,” the statement further reads.
