German deputy and rapporteur for Kosovo in the Bundestag, Thomas Hacker, describes the Berlin Process as a significant success and thanks Kosovo for unblocking the CEFTA agreement.
“The Berlin Process summit was a great success. We managed to unblock the CEFTA Agreement among the six members, the six states of the Western Balkans for Free Trade.”
“Such an agreement had been postponed year after year, and now we finally reached an agreement. I think it was truly a great success, and I am grateful to the Government of Kosovo, which ultimately paved the way for an important agreement,” said Hacker.
Regarding the dialogue, Hacker believes a new approach is needed, stating that Lajčak has not been fair. According to him, the measures against Kosovo are unjust and should be lifted immediately.
Criticizing what he sees as undemocratic and harmful actions by Serbia, the German deputy stated that to enter the EU, the country must recognize Kosovo.
“Currently, in the integration process of Kosovo and Serbia into the EU, this bilateral dialogue is one of the most important things. We have made many efforts to resolve issues, to remove obstacles, but no matter how much we try, we always seem to take steps backward,” Hacker told A2CNN.
“Therefore, a fresh start to the dialogue is necessary. We have seen agreements that Vučić has deemed valid without signatures, only to later claim the agreement contradicts his country’s constitution. We will soon have a new envoy for the dialogue. Miroslav Lajčak is leaving at the beginning of next year. I believe we have the opportunity for a new beginning in the dialogue. In recent months, Lajčak was no longer viewed as a fair mediator. Now I hope we will have one.”
