Kosovo’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, has labeled the attack in Zubin Potok as a terrorist act, revealing that approximately 15 kilograms of explosives were used to damage the Ibër-Lepenc canal.
Sveçla confirmed that the explosion has caused disruptions to the water supply in several cities and to the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK). He emphasized that Serbia’s objective is now clear: to block essential services for Kosovo’s citizens and create widespread fear.
“This is the largest attack on critical infrastructure since the end of the war in Kosovo,” said Sveçla.
The minister noted that, while the exact amount of explosives used is still under investigation, police experts, with assistance from KFOR, estimate that around 15 kilograms of explosives were deployed. He further explained that the damage to the canal, deemed critical infrastructure, has resulted in significant water supply disruptions, impacting major cities and KEK’s operations.
Sveçla outlined that current reserves are being utilized, but teams are working to restore the situation to ensure KEK can continue operating. He also stressed that the attack aims to destabilize life in the region, prevent essential services, and instill fear across Kosovo.
“This message is for all of Kosovo and our international partners. Terrorist elements are declaring they will not stop and do not want peace to prevail in Kosovo,” Sveçla said.
