Ambassador of Germany to Kosovo, Jorn Rohde, shared a post from the new European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, regarding her separate meetings with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.

Rohde highlighted Kallas’ statement, which emphasized that the only path for Kosovo and Serbia to join the European Union is through the normalization of their relations, based on the Ohrid Agreement. He recalled a similar message from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during a 2022 visit to the region, where he stated, “Only candidates who recognize each other can join the EU.”

Kallas further stressed her commitment to working on the Western Balkans region to advance the EU enlargement process, which she believes will benefit both the EU and these countries. She also expressed her readiness to invest her time in reducing existing tensions and progressing in the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade.

After the meeting, Kurti expressed hope that Kosovo and the wider Western Balkans region would benefit from European values, democratic support, economic aid, and overall peace and security. He also urged the new European Commission structures to insist on implementing the Agreement for the normalization of relations with Serbia and not to forget this agreement whenever dialogue is discussed.

Additionally, Kurti informed Kallas about the ongoing investigations into the recent attack on the Ibër-Lepenc canal.
