The European Union has announced the deployment of an election observation mission for Kosovo’s upcoming parliamentary elections, scheduled for February 9, 2025. The mission will be led by Nathalie Loiseau, a Member of the European Parliament, who has been appointed as the Chief Observer by the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell.

Loiseau expressed her honor at being selected to lead the EU mission, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming elections. “These parliamentary elections will be the first to be held under a new electoral law that takes into account our previous recommendations. I am looking forward to engaging with authorities, political parties, candidates, civil society, and other electoral stakeholders in Kosovo,” Loiseau said.

The European Union’s election observation missions in Kosovo, requested by local authorities, are a clear demonstration of the EU’s continued commitment to supporting Kosovo’s efforts to strengthen its democratic governance. The EU mission’s presence on the ground aims to ensure that the electoral process is inclusive, credible, and transparent, allowing Kosovo’s voters to express their choices freely and without hindrance.

This election observation mission will contribute to reinforcing the integrity of Kosovo’s democracy, providing an independent assessment of the election process to both national and international audiences. The EU has long supported Kosovo’s democratic development, and this mission underscores its continued involvement in the region’s political and institutional progress.
