U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that the talks between American and Russian officials in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday were ‘very good’ and that he is ‘much more confident’ about a peace agreement in Ukraine.
In response to reporters’ questions about whether Ukrainians might feel ‘betrayed’ because they were not invited to the talks in Riyadh, Trump said they have already had three years to negotiate peace.
The U.S. President also mentioned that he would not oppose European peacekeeping troops being stationed in Ukraine as part of a peace agreement with Russia.
‘If they want to do that, it would be fine,’ Trump said, adding that the U.S. ‘would not oppose this at all.’
‘I know France has mentioned it. Others have mentioned it. The UK has mentioned it,’ he said, calling it a ‘nice gesture.’”
