U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a sharp response to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau after Canada announced a 25% tariff on American products.

Posting on his platform “Truth Social,” Trump mocked Trudeau, stating that any retaliatory tariff imposed by Canada would be met with an identical increase in U.S. tariffs.

Trump also referred to Trudeau as the “Governor of Canada,” a term he has used before to mock the idea of Canada becoming the 51st state of the U.S.—a notion that Trudeau has firmly rejected.

In response, Trudeau asserted that Canada will continue to act in defense of its national interests, emphasizing that his government will not back down from U.S. economic pressure.
