European Union Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, said today in Tirana that Albania has made really good progress on its path towards the European Union.

These comments were made by Commissioner Kos in Tirana, during a press conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama.

In October of last year, Albania opened negotiations for the first group chapters, which are also the most fundamental ones and are usually the last ones to close. In December, the second group chapter related to foreign policy was also opened.

Within the first six months of this year, it is expected that two more group chapters will be opened, and by the end of 2025, negotiations are expected to cover all group chapters.

Prime Minister Edi Rama reiterated today that his government’s ambition is to close the negotiations by 2027 and that by 2030, Albania will become part of the European Union.

On her part, the Enlargement Commissioner declared that these are “realistic objectives.”
