Swiss Economy Minister Guy Parmelin has stated that Switzerland is ready to engage in discussions with the United States to avoid new tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. Last week, a Swiss delegation visited Washington to explain the country’s position, as Switzerland was placed on a list of countries under review for unfair trade practices, according to swissinfo.
Parmelin highlighted Switzerland’s significant contribution to the U.S. economy, mentioning that the country is the sixth-largest investor in the U.S. and Swiss companies employ around 400,000 people with high wages. He also reminded that Switzerland has removed industrial tariffs, allowing 99% of American goods to enter without customs duties.
However, he acknowledged that it remains uncertain whether these arguments will be enough to avoid tariffs, which are set to take effect on April 2. For now, Switzerland will await the U.S. decision, with high-level talks to follow later, as reported by albinfo.
