The Basic Court in Pristina has issued a guilty verdict against Dragisha Milenković, sentencing him to 7 years in prison for war crimes in Kosovo. Additionally, he was fined 1,500 euros for illegal possession of a firearm.
In this case, Dragisha Milenković is accused of having tortured prisoners in an inhuman manner while serving as a guard at the Pristina and Lipjan prisons, as reported by “Betimi për Drejtësi.”
The verdict against Milenković was announced on Wednesday by the presiding judge of the panel, Kujtim Krasniqi.
Judge Krasniqi stated that Milenković was sentenced to 7 years in prison for war crimes, while for illegal possession of a firearm, he was fined 1,500 euros. The firearm in question was ordered to be confiscated.
The accused was also ordered to cover the costs of the procedure, amounting to 300 euros, and 100 euros for the victims’ fund.
The detention measure for Milenković was extended until the verdict becomes final.
The indictment, filed on December 26, 2023, by the Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo, charges Dragisha Milenković with having systematically mistreated Albanian prisoners during the war in Kosovo in 1998-1999, while serving as a guard at the Pristina and Lipjan prisons.
On January 10, 2024, during the initial hearing, Milenković pleaded not guilty to war crimes but admitted guilt for illegal possession of a firearm.
