Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he is ready to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin “personally” in Istanbul on Thursday for talks aimed at ending the war.

His statement came shortly after Donald Trump called on Ukraine to agree to Putin’s offer for direct negotiations between the two countries in Turkey, the BBC reports.

“There is no point in prolonging the killings. And I will wait for Putin in Turkey on Thursday. Personally,” Zelensky wrote.

He had previously stated that his country was open to negotiations with Russia, but only after a ceasefire had been established.
