Five people have been killed in a mass shooting at a food market in Bangkok, Thailand, on Monday.
The suspected gunman opened fire at the Or Tor Kor fruit and seafood market, killing four security guards and a market worker before taking his own life, Bangkok police confirmed, according to the BBC.

Two other market vendors were injured in the attack, police added.

Police Lieutenant Siam Boonsom told local media the shooter was a Thai national who had previously had disputes with the market’s security staff. He stressed the incident had no connection to Thailand’s ongoing border tensions with Cambodia.

Thailand has seen multiple deadly mass shootings in recent years:

  • In 2023, a 14-year-old boy killed two people and wounded five in a Bangkok shopping mall.
  • In October 2022, a former police officer killed at least 37 people — mostly children — in a daycare center in Nong Bua Lamphu province.
  • In 2020, a Thai soldier killed 29 people and injured dozens more in a rampage in Nakhon Ratchasima.
