KUMANOVO, October 8, 2025 — Police have arrested the wife of Kumanovo doctor and politician Zekirija Shahini, who was wounded in an armed attack earlier this week. She is suspected of being involved in the attempted murder of her husband.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the 43-year-old woman from Tetovo was detained by the Kumanovo police unit. Six other individuals have been called in for questioning, and a court-ordered search was conducted at the home of a 50-year-old Kumanovo resident.
“Once the case is fully documented, the arrested woman will face charges for attempted murder. Authorities are also searching for a 36-year-old from Gostivar, suspected of firing the shots at Shahini, who remains at large,” the ministry stated.
Zekirija Shahini, a candidate for councilor in the Likovo municipality, was shot by a masked attacker on October 6, 2025. He is currently out of life-threatening danger after receiving medical treatment at Kumanovo Hospital.
