Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated in an interview with French channel France 2 that the ongoing war with Russia continues to pose a serious threat to Ukraine’s sovereignty, but expressed confidence that a peaceful resolution could be achieved within a year.

Zelensky asserted that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not intimidated by European leaders, but “fears only U.S. President Donald Trump.” He described this as an “undeniable fact,” adding that “whatever Trump says to Putin is not our business.”

The Ukrainian president also recalled that Trump has previously indicated a willingness to end the conflict through compromise. Zelensky emphasized that while Ukraine supports American-led peace initiatives, it will not accept any compromise that undermines its sovereignty.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Zelensky reiterated that democracy alone is insufficient to restrain Putin, noting that the Russian leader does not respect established rules or principles of warfare.

Zelensky further criticized the lack of adequate pressure on Moscow from the international community and stressed that any dialogue with Russia must be conducted under clear conditions to produce tangible results.
